Visiting Registered Nurse - Part Time (.5)

If hired, the State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49.00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
Primary Purpose:
To support the district's Parents as Teachers and Childfind programs on campuses and in private homes by providing parent education to families with children from birth to five, prenatal/postnatal support and education, basic child health and wellness support, and through the administration of hearing and vision screenings.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assess vision and hearing of children ages birth to five.
Provide health and wellness support to children ages birth to five.
Maintain updated and concise documentation of all vision, hearing, and health screenings.
Document all home visits and consultations.
Support the mission of the Parents as Teachers Program through recruitment, education, and partnership with families.
Support school readiness through the health and wellness support and education of families.
Administer First Aid/CPR/AED when necessary.
Conduct health care teaching of individuals or groups.
Refer families to district and community resources for vision, hearing, and other health-related issues.
Conduct yearly inventory and order supplies for program.
Maintain audiometers and all equipment to ensure cleanliness and quality.
Provide support to parents regarding general health and wellness, maternal health, post-partum depression, new-born health, and nutrition both on campus and in private home settings.
Conduct parent education classes that include infant massage, lactation counseling, first aid, nutrition, child safety, mental wellness, and family well-being.
Support teen parents and their children through personal visits and classes.
Plan, implement, and successfully teach parenting, child development, and health related topics to groups of parents.
Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
General Qualification Guidelines
Education/Certification/ Experience:
Bachelor or Associate degree in Nursing (or graduate of a nursing diploma program).
Texas RN license required. CPR/AED certification. Vision/Hearing/Spinal screening and Acanthosis Nigricans certification.
Must maintain valid Texas driver's license.
Experience in nursing, preferably in public school environment.
Skill in oral and written communication, organization and time management, and basic computer skills including Word, Excel, online calendar, web-based data system.
Ability to work a varied schedule including morning, afternoon and evening visits; communicate effectively, to handle stressful situations in calm and efficient manner, make decisions quickly and independently, to understand LVN scope of practice, understand written and verbal instructions; respond effectively to daily changing schedules of families and programs; and relate to students and families from a variety of backgrounds.
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during portions of work day.
Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Administer screenings on the floor with young children.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Needs to have vehicle available for district travel.
Frequent sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, twisting, pulling and pushing.
Required to lift 25 pounds unassisted.
Potential exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases.
Ability to use standard office equipment including computer, mouse, printer, scanner and fax machine.
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on short-term basis.
Ability to make decisions which have significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside immediate work unit.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
