2018-19 Lead Grounds Technician

If hired, the State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
To schedule and assist the assigned grounds technicians to perform maintenance and repair of school properties and campus areas to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and presentation of grounds.
  • Operate deck mowers and use string trimmers during mowing season.
  • Analyze turf conditions as to disease, insect and/or fertility problems, to determine deficiency, effect, control methods, and applications of fertilizer, insecticides, etc., for effective turf management.
  • Ensure athletic facilities are prepared for athletic events (i. e., fields lined, activity areas trimmed and outlined, trash cleaned, equipment checked, etc.).
  • Monitor shrubs and trees on all campuses to ensure necessary cut and trim operations are conducted.
  • Assign grounds staff to areas for trash clean-up each day.
  • Monitor campus areas to ensure leaves, grass clippings, debris and other trash is removed.
  • Coordinate with Grounds Supervisor to schedule grounds staff to assist in maintenance projects (i. e., set-up equipment, move heavy ladders/lifts, deliver finished products, etc.).
  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance.
  • Commute to and from multiple facilities within the District as assigned, using District-owned Vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide daily operational oversight to Grounds Technicians.

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
  • Valid Texas Class C Operator s Driver s License. Driving record must meet district standard for driving district vehicles.
  • Current Certified Pesticide Applicators License either from Texas Department of Agriculture or Structural Pest Control Board or able to maintain one within two years of employment.
  • Two years experience in gardening or landscape maintenance.

  • Knowledge of the operation and use of grounds care equipment is required.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions; communicate verbally; operate tractor and landscaping equipment; operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools; perform minor maintenance and preventative maintenance procedures.

Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
  • Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions of other information.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder.
  • Constantly positions self to be able to reach items on ground or above head.
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 90 pounds.
  • May be exposed to high or low outside temperatures.
  • Frequently exposed to intermittent loud noises.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but will occasionally work in a loud area.
  • Work in hot, dry, and dusty conditions as well as possibly cold, wet, and damp areas.
  • Will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  • Occasionally work with grounds or maintenance chemicals.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
